There is magic all around us that works in ways we can’t fully comprehend. The places we find ourselves in are part of our story, they become part of our identity. There are some places where that magic shines brighter than others, in which it is a reflection of us. The Grand Canyon is one of those places.
In the heart of the Grand Canyon, a river flows with a force that seems to defy time itself. As the river flows and unveils the secrets of the Earth’s history, It also unveils secrets of our identity. The river becomes a mirror, inviting us to delve into the depths of our own souls, to confront our emotions. Back in 2017, I was the wildcard addition to a private trip down on the Colorado River, a trip that changed my life. At this time, I was in the depths of a heartbreak, searching for solace and release. I deeply remember feeling so happy, yet so heartbroken, hit with such emotional waves in those 17 days. I did not know what to expect out of this trip, but what I did discover is something more valuable than I could have ever imagined.
With her immaculate beauty and profound stillness, the canyon became a powerful teacher in my journey towards self-love. I found an unexpected source of renewal and discovered that the love that I had been seeking through another already existed within me. All I needed was to slow down, surrender and acknowledge that I am whole on my own. I need no man or another human’s affirmation to be reminded of this. I just needed the reminder of my magic.
When I feel trapped in an eddy, the Colorado River brings me back into flow to guide me downstream and help me find my way again. This transformative landscape continues to remind me that even amidst life’s challenges, the light within us remains illuminated. I hope you find yourself tucked in between the canyon walls to not only embrace her magic, but to embrace your own.
